Don Thompson submitted his film  'Signs of a Rebel Buddha' to DIFF in 2020 and was lauded with an 'Outstanding Achievement' Award and also nominated for a Golden Dragon Award. In 2025, the festival gave him the 'Master of Storytelling' award for his contribution to independent cinema.
